Teaching: An American Legacy

(Historical/Political Fiction - Volume One, 1950-2020, Completed in 2021)
Remember when teachers were well-paid, respected members of the community? When was that again?

In my first book, TEACHING: AN AMERICAN LEGACY, you'll learn about the history of the American education system through a series of short stories, each showcasing one day in the life of a teacher. Each story is set in a different period of the generational saeculum, from today's Millenials and Generation Xers to the first Puritans of the early 1600's.
You'll come away with a better understanding of why the same cycle of problems returns with each generation of education reform, and how the overarching promise of a better life makes education one of America's greatest cultural legacies.

Soft Shell Blue

(Fiction: Coming-of-Age, first draft in progress)
Does faithfulness mean anything when your love is forgotten?

When aspiring artist Julia Varner and her college-bound neighbor Grant Woodley fall in love by the lake one hot Carolina summer, they have nothing but bright dreams for the future. But after they're forced to break up and stay apart until a chance meeting in Charleston eight years later, they find themselves wondering if a second shot is worth the risk-- or if it's just too late for that kind of love.

Set in 2016 and 2024, SOFT SHELL BLUE takes a hard look at the loneliness epidemic, and explores the ideas of faithfulness, romance, and the human need for trust and connection. With flavors of the American South and a little inspiration from Jane Austen's Persuasion, this story brings modern issues to light with humor and grace.
